Creepers
Lukas Heerich, Creepers, 2017
Oil on canvas, 30 x 40 cm,
Edition 1 + 1 AP
Published on the occasion of the exhibition Lukas Heerich - Creepers.
With Creepers Lukas Heerich devotes himself to the camouflage pattern. Closely associated with the methods of modern warfare, it was first tested in field combat during the First World War. Since the late 1960s, however, Camouflage has also become increasingly present in the civilian sphere: sometimes as a sign of pacifist protest, or as a conscious public provocation. Later, in many variations, it became part of fashion.
Lukas Heerich (b. Düsseldorf, 1989) lives and works between Berlin and Paris. His practice ranges across a number of media, including installation, sculpture, painting, sound, composition, photography, and performance. Heerich trained at the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf, where he was Meisterschüler of Andreas Gursky, and at the Städelschule, Frankfurt, where he graduated in 2020.
